Progress Update: Interlude

Migration Complete!

Progress Update The Hits, the Stars

Progress Update: The Hits, the Stars

I
I'm back and rested from my vacation, which put me in the mood to get some solid work done on the site on Tuesday.

Ratings and page views: In addition to bringing the story migration up to 85% -- that's 850 stories, folks, some of them little slips of things and many of them pretty substantial -- I set up the code to add three pieces of information into the story head for each story: the star rating, the hit count, and the date added.

For now the star rating and the number of page views are both static, using the information that was available as of the shuddering death of the old wiki site on 1 April. However, the code I added is the platform for making the hit counts live and for allowing live voting on the star ratings again. The former will happen pretty soon, most like, and the latter won't be long in coming. What I'd like to do is to be able to show the star ratings and page views on all of the tag and author pages, the way that the tags are now universally visible.

This also means it won't be long before there are pages for highest rated and most viewed stories. Once the ratings and hit counts are live again those will be easy to set up. For now, you can browse the stories and see the historic ratings and page views up though the end of the old site.

Tag refinement: Tag renovation is slightly further down the road, but I'm keen on the suggestions I've been getting, some of which are angles I haven’t really though about before. Keep on shooting me ideas, via the comments on the tag reno page or contacting me directly in any of the usual ways.

Biweekly update: I will be resuming the Wednesday biweekly updates very very soon. I don't think there will be one this week, because I kind of want to get the migration finished for real, but that means next week for sure. I have some stories in the queue but I am always looking for new stories and new voices, so please submit your stories!

And as always, thanks for being here. It really means a lot to me. Really special thanks to those who have taken a moment to help support the site -- your help is genuinely appreciated.
