Growing Gabriel

Gabriel saves his roommate Jake in a car accident but gets injured severely himself. As Jake is grieving and wishes his friend to recover, an angel appears to grant him power to help his buddy.

It seems like it was only yesterday when my best friend got struck by a car. It was an incident which changed our lives forever. My name is Jake and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you the story of my friend Gabriel. Even though this has happened over three years ago, I still remember it like it just happened.

We had both attended the graduation party, on that fateful evening in early may. The party was winding down, and we were getting tired of hanging around the main auditorium at our old school. We had just graduated from the little community college, and we were about to set our sights on future job possibilities. We both received bachelor’s degrees in business, and we were talking about starting an online business together.

I am about 6 feet tall and athletic. Gabriel is only 5 ft and 6 inches tall. But Gabriel is definitely the stronger and the more intelligent of the two of us. It was about 3 o’clock in the morning, when we were walking outside the main entrance to our school, when a red van was driving straight at us!

I really didn’t see the van coming. It was a dark intersection and it was very early in the morning. Gabriel saw the car coming straight at us, and suddenly he screamed my name out loud. Before I knew what was going on, he shoved me on to the sidewalk, where I just barely missed getting struck by the car. But Gabriel was struck in the head, before he tumbled on to the other side of the street. This was a classic case of a hit-and-run incident, for the driver was drunk and obviously didn’t know what he was doing.

I was in a daze. As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw the van drive away. I had just caught a glimpse of the burgundy colored Ford explorer. But that was not my concern. Instead, I needed to help Gabriel. I immediately grabbed my cell phone and called 911. Gabriel was unconscious on the ground and he was bleeding. I felt a horrible cramp in my stomach, and the feeling of watching my friend die, after he saved my life, made me sick. I stayed with him and cried, while I waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Things weren’t looking too well for Gabriel. Gabriel was placed in the Intensive care unit, and the diagnosis wasn’t good. He had broken some bones and he had hit his head hard against the sidewalk. The police officer really didn’t offer much good news, either. They found the Ford Explorer and they interviewed the driver, who was as drunk as can be. He was booked into the county jail for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene after striking a pedestrian. I was happy he got caught, although it didn’t do much to help Gabriel directly.

Gabriel’s situation had made a turn for the worst, and the doctors didn’t know if he would ever have a normal recovery. He had a broken leg, and he still hadn’t wakened up yet. They couldn’t tell me if he had lapsed in a coma or not. For the moment, it seemed like life as we know it, was over for my best friend. I began to sob out loud, after the doctor had given me the grim news. He left me alone in Gabriel’s room for awhile, so I could think things over. I knew that Gabriel had few friends and almost no family, and it would be up to me to notify any next of kin in case he was to pass away. It seemed so cruel. We were just at a college graduation a few hours earlier, and now this has happened. At first, it seemed like we were about to have a new beginning, and then the accident came. Our business plans were shattered, Gabriel’s life was over. It seemed like a cruel ending to an innocent life. And I was the survivor. Gabriel saved my life, and he sacrificed his own so that I could live. It just wasn’t fair.

The minutes just ticked away, as I sat in the chair, overlooking Gabriel’s hospital bed. I was tired, hungry, and I felt horrible. I didn’t know how much longer I could hold on. I really didn’t know what I would have done, in case Gabriel would have passed on. I felt so helpless, sitting there, watching my best friend, on what could well have been his last hours alive. I cried out to him, wishing that there was something I could do. He sacrificed his own life for mine, and I felt so incredible undeserving. I would give anything to help Gabriel. He was my hero. Just the thought of sitting there and watching him die was just too much for me to bear.

Suddenly, bright light blinded me! It was as if someone had turned on a very bright light in the hospital room. I slowly stood up, but I couldn’t look at the light. It was just too bright. A deep, baritone voice called out my name.

“Jake! Jake! Are you there?” the voice said.

“I’m here!” I answered. “Who… Who are you?”

“I’m an angel, Jake! I have heard your cries, and I came to give you the opportunity to help your dying friend. Are you still willing to help him?”

“Yes!” I cried out. “I’ll do anything! Please, don’t let him die! It’s not fair. He saved my life! I don’t want him to die…”

I turned towards the bed. Tears were rolling down my face. The sight of seeing my best friend, lying helpless in a hospital bed just hours after graduating, just had become too much for me.

“I’ll wish I could protect him and watch over him. I wish I could help him out and make him bigger and stronger” I sobbed. “I just want him to live! We’re like brothers, and I just can’t bear to watch him die!”

“So it will be done as you wish” the figure in the bright light responded.

I turned towards the light, but I couldn’t look at it.

“You will give Gabriel his strength, Jake. You will make him grow. You will make him strong. You will be his guardian and his protector. You will see, hear, feel, taste, smell, and touch everything that Gabriel sees, hears, feels, tastes, smells and touches from now on. When you close your eyes, you will go inside of him and you will know everything he feels or thinks. Do you understand that?”

“Uh… Yes… I think so…” I stuttered, not knowing what was going to happen next.

“You will use your thoughts to send commands to Gabriel’s body, so that you can make him bigger and stronger when he needs you. His life will now be completely dependent on yours, and you will protect him since he saved your life. The two of you will be connected for the rest of your lives. Protect Gabriel, and you will enjoy long, happy lives from this point forward. Take care of Gabriel, and it will go well with you…”

The bright light suddenly disappeared from the room.

As soon as it was gone, I turned towards my best friend. I just wished for him to recover and to wake up.

Suddenly, there was a light groan. I couldn’t believe it! His eyes were open!

“Gabe? Gabriel?” I shouted, as I saw him stare at the ceiling.

“Hey, Jake…” he said in a soft voice.

I had to fight to contain my joy! I couldn’t believe it! I thought I was dreaming! He had woken up, just as I had wished just seconds earlier. This was incredible! I stood up and walked out the room, running to the Doctor’s office. As soon as I saw him, I told him that Gabriel had woken up and that he needed to come see him!

What happened next seems like a miracle. Gabriel made the most miraculous recovery in medical history. His broken leg had healed, he was wide awake, and he felt strong again! Gabriel only stayed in the hospital for another three days, before they released him. He began feeling stronger every day, and there was no reason to keep him in the hospital anymore! He had fully recovered and was released after the third day!

I was so relieved after I had finally brought him home. We had just purchased a small townhouse together, from money that we had received from our families for our graduation. Gabriel changed into a t-shirt and shorts, before sitting on the couch. He just spent the following couple of days sleeping, relaxing and watching TV.

I was during these few days that I discovered a new trick. Whenever I would close me eyes, I could feel my mind flowing through his body. I could sense where he was hurting and what he was thinking. I could even tell what he was looking at. I could feel his heart beating inside of him. It was incredible! Whenever he would feel a cramp in his leg or in his arm, I could close my eyes, and make it go away! Once I realized that I could control and change Gabriel’s body, I decided to implement my plan of making him bigger over a period of a few weeks. I figured this was the least I could do for him, since he had saved my life!

My first opportunity to have some fun with my 5 ft 6 inch tall roommate was on the basketball court, which was at a large park down the street from out townhouse. Gabriel spotted one of his former classmates on the court, and they started out just shooting a few baskets. Several other guys joined the group, and before you knew it, they had enough guys on the court to play a little 3-on-3 basketball. I thought it was fun to watch, since I don’t play, but I felt sorry for Gabriel. He was one of the shortest guys in the group, and I could tell that his lack of height wasn’t of much help on the basketball court, when everybody else is over 6 feet tall. So, I decided to do something about it later on.

I didn’t want to try my “power” in front of the guys, because I knew that everyone would freak out when one of the shortest players just experiences a growth spurt and shoots up a few inches in a matter of seconds, so I decided to wait till after we got back home from the park.

“So, did you have fun?” I asked Gabe, after he got out of the shower.

“It was alright. It was same as usual. I’m used to it by now…” he said, feeling a little dejected.

“I can help you if you want!” I chuckled, as he stood before me. Again, he was short and handsome. He had light brown hair, brown eyes, and he was skinny as could be. He had some muscle on him, but not much. I decided it was time for him to have a growth spurt.

“Oh yeah?” he wondered.

“How about you grow six inches, so you end up at the same height as me?” I said to him.

“That would be nice, but…”

“But… What?”

“That’s impossible! People don’t just grow six inches in one afternoon…”

“Oh no? Just watch, Gabe!” I grinned. I closed my eyes and commanded his body to grow six inches taller in the legs.

Suddenly, Gabriel gasped as he felt something happening to his body. He looked down and stared at me in shock, when he realized that his legs were in the process of stretching a little bit. As his legs grew, his body from the waist up slowly was pushed up, and his head was suddenly further away from the floor than it was just a few moments before.

‘Oh my God!” he exclaimed, as he stared at me. “I’m growing! What the heck is going on? How is that possible?”

“Relax, Gabe! It’s me who is doing it. Just enjoy the ride!” I chuckled in reply. It was so cool, watching him grow. I had to always look down on him. It was such a thrill to watch him grow taller, and to see his head rise up while his legs grew longer. Before I knew it, I was able to look him straight in the eyes.

“There you go! You’re just as tall as I am now!” I laughed. This new power of mine was just the coolest thing ever, and I wanted to make sure that it really did work the way the angel had promised.

“That’s amazing! You can just make me grow whenever you want to?” he asked me, as he looked around.

He slowly walked around the room as he tried to adjust to his new height. I can imagine, having been 5 foot 6 all his life, that those additional 6 inches in height made a significant difference to him! He was completely in shock!

“Yeah! Not only that, but I can sense and feel everything you’re feeling too. So, don’t worry, Gabe, I’ll protect you and take care of you. I’ll make sure that nothing and nobody can or will never hurt you again. You’re my best friend and I don’t ever want to lose you, you hear me?”

“Yeah… I hear you! That was just fantastic! I feel so… so tall!” he said as he stood right in front of me.

I loved it, for I could now see him face to face. Actually, I got an idea at that moment that I wanted to eventually grow him taller than me. He has always been the shortest, and I figured that I wanted to give him the opportunity to be the big guy in the house, for a change.

“Enjoy it, Gabe! Just relax, buddy! Your heart is racing in your body! Hold on a sec…” I said to him.

I closed me eyes and allowed my mind to flow inside of him. He was feeling rather nervous. I decided to slow down his heartbeat and to make him relax. I wanted him to feel a little sleepy. When I opened my eyes, I noticed him yawning a few times.

“Feeling alright, Gabe?” I asked him.

Yeah” he replied. “Just a little tired, that’s all…”

I closed my eyes again, and I decided to give him the urge to sit on the couch and to watch a little TV for now. As soon as I opened my eyes, he was walking over to the couch, where he grabbed the remote, sat down, and turned on the TV set. I loved it. I owned his body, and I began to feel like I was actually a part of him. This was so cool!

After an hour or so, I noticed that he was getting pretty tired, although he was fighting hard to stay awake. I didn’t want him to force himself, so I closed my eyes and I ordered his body to fall asleep. When I opened my eyes, he had just dozed off. I could see if and when he was dreaming, and I noticed that I could create or alter his dreams as well! So, I just gave him happy thought, and he was sleeping like a baby!

I felt so excited about my new power that I had already decided to give him a few more inches. I realized that six inches was already a lot to get used to, so I would allow him to walk around at his new height for a week, before I would give him another growth spurt.

It was the first week of summer, and both of us were putting in job applications everywhere. We knew we needed jobs now, just to make ends meet. But, we also knew that we would need some extra money in order to get our online business off the ground. We used our computers to surf the web and to look for great auction sites like EBay, where we could bid on cheap items. We started buying good computer equipment that we would then turn around and sell on our site at a better price.

Finally, by Friday, Gabe came home with a wide grin on his face. He had gotten a job working as a stock boy at the brand new Super Wal-Mart down the street from our townhouse.

“I got a new job” he said to me, after he arrived home. “But, it requires a lot of hauling and lifting. I need to carry lots of stuff, and I also need to be able to reach the highest shelves on the aisles in the store…”

“No problem, Gabe” I assured him. “I’ll take care of you. Just take your clothes off, except for the underwear, and come over here…”

He immediately walked up to me and stood right before me, staring at my face with his big, brown eyes.

I closed my eyes and immediately sent commands to his body. I was going to mold him and to give him the best body I could give him, which would make him the best employee in the entire store! As soon as I felt that my mind had connected to his body, I opened my eyes so I could see what he looked like. Right away, I imagined his shoulders growing a bit wider, and his arms growing thicker.

He gasped when he felt his body changing right before his very own eyes! His biceps grew big, round and hard like bowling balls. His pectorals increased in size as well, pushing his arms out further. I looked down at his abs, and I made a picture in my mind of a beautiful six pack of abdominals on his torso. I grinned, when I saw his abs popping up covering his stomach!

I looked further, but I needed a better view of his legs. So, I decided to make him grow six inches taller once again! I wanted his torso to lengthen just a few inches, and the rest of the increased length was attributed to his long legs. As his legs grew longer, I noticed that they made him seem really skinny. I wanted him to have some meat on him, so he would have the strength needed to lift all that heavy stuff on his new job. There was no way I was going to allow him to get hurt on the job!

Finally, I decided to allow his body to gain about twenty pounds of muscle. I wanted his quads and his calves to grow as well, so that those long legs had all the strength that was necessary so he could carry every heavy item in the store.

When I was done molding his body, I could just stand there and look up to my handiwork. There he was, six-and-a-half feet tall, and he was over 250 pounds of muscle, strength and energy. I walked around him, and I noticed his butt as well. I ordered his butt to expand a little, so that it was nice and round in the back! While I was at it, I willed his calves to fill up as well, leaving him with the most awesome pair of muscles any man has ever seen on the back of his legs. He looked like a runner or a cyclist, with awesomely muscled legs!

“Alright, Gabriel! How do you like your new body so far?” I asked him.

The cool thing was that he really didn’t need to answer.

The smile on his face was worth a thousand words.

I would look for more opportunities to make Gabe grow some more. But for now, I was content with my new, big roommate, and I liked him the way he was. Who knows, some day I would decide he needed another growth spurt. I was just feeling extremely grateful that he was alive and healthy, and I would wait for the perfect opportunity to grow Gabriel some more. For now, he was big enough!
