Today is Independence Day here in the States. Now, a flashback day falling on a major holiday is usually a slam dunk in terms of setting a theme, but there aren’t actually a lot of stories in the archive that relate to the American Revolution or colonial independence, funnily enough. If today were a new-story day, I might have tried to write a Founding Fathers cock growth tale almost certainly to be called “Pursuit of Happiness” (backup title: “And Called It Macaroni”). It’s probably just as well for all of us that story didn’t get written.
Anyway, as I noodled around with various searches I realized that most of the references to the Fourth of July on Metabods are about fireworks, and are using the idea (ahem) metaphorically. So I decided to go with that, and put together a sampling of stories where fireworks are what happens inside when things are going especially well. A few even connect to the holiday, though very tangentially. It’s almost as tenuous and random a melange as the idea I nearly went with, which was a list of stories involving characters named George, Thomas, Alexander…
As noted last week, this month is flashbacks only as I complete an urgent nonsmut writing project. The next update is 8 August. In the meantime, thanks for visiting and enjoy the site.
